LOCAL NEWS TITLES SEE A FLURRY OF RELAUNCHES POST PANDEMIC

As we start to come through one of the most turbulent times in recent history for newsprint media, we are beginning to see further proof of recovery and hope amongst our Publishers and we are so excited to see the return of a number of local news titles within our portfolio.

In recent weeks, JPI have announced the return of 3 local titles for which we are proud to now offer Insert solutions.

Read on for more information and the latest developments across the regional press market:

News Post Leader

The News Post Leader, covering South-East Northumberland, has witnessed overwhelming community support in its shift to become a paid for title from the end of April this year, as they promised their loyal, local readership “a stronger voice for the community we have been proud to serve since 1874” in this new and exciting chapter for the title.

The Brighton Indy

The Brighton & Hove Independent, currently an online only publication since print was also suspended last year due to the pandemic, is soon to be reborn as a weekly paid for title ‘The Brighton Indy’ with a print run of c5,000, from 4th June.

The Indy is returning in a contemporary 72-page format with a vast array of news, arts, entertainments and sports coverage. JPIMedia regional Director and editor in chief, Gary Shipton says “Brighton is such a special place and, as we leave lockdown behind us, deserves a weekly title of this quality. This paper will be at the very heart of Brighton life and we have already heard that the community is as excited about it as we are.”

Editor Nicola Caines said: “We will be bringing readers a fabulous mix of good, strong local stories through a team of writers and columnists that live and work in the city and are positive and passionate about it.”

MK Citizen

The new edition of the MK Citizen, The MK Citizen ‘Extra’ is now available to buy, marking a hugely exciting time for both the publication and the local community of Milton Keynes.

Editor Damien Lucas said: “We are very excited to launch the new edition of the MK Citizen.
“There is a feeling of optimism and excitement across the city as the lockdown restrictions ease and more and more businesses, restaurants, pubs and entertainment venues reopen.
“As the local newspaper and website for MK, we have been backing businesses throughout the pandemic and giving them support and publicity as they battled for survival and now look to grow.
“What better way to do this than to launch a bigger, better MK Citizen that gives our readers more of the things they love about Milton Keynes.”

With the ‘Extra’ publication boasting subscription incentives and everything from property, lifestyle, news, business to sport content, we are excited to be able to offer advertisers a new and refreshed opportunity to reach local communities with Inserts.

A promising landscape

The news from JPI demonstrates just some of the developments we are seeing across regional and local newspaper titles as more return to circulation. It is a hugely promising time for newsprint as we are witnessing a shift to a more positive landscape.
